Serbia's Mining and Energy Minister Dubravka Djedovic Handanovic said the Serbia-Bulgaria gas link will be completed in the first two weeks of November, during his visit to the construction site in late October, BalkanEngineer.com reported, cited by BTA.
Work on the gas interconnector is in its final phase, with about 98% of the project's activities already completed. Once the construction work at the site is completed, procedures will begin to obtain the necessary permits to ensure that the pipeline will be put into operation in the coming weeks.
According to Minister Handanovic, the gas interconnection with Bulgaria is of strategic importance for Serbia, as it will diversify the sources of gas supply and allow the receipt of gas from Azerbaijan and the LNG terminal in Greece.
The Serbian authorities are currently negotiating with an Azerbaijani company and a memorandum of understanding with the Azerbaijani Ministry of Energy and a sales agreement between the Azerbaijani supplier and the distribution company Srbijagas are expected to be signed by the end of November. Natural gas supplies via the interconnector are expected to start before the end of на 2023 г.
