Unit A at the Nikola Tesla thermal power plant (TENT A), Serbia, was put into trial operation at the end of March this year. thanks to a flue gas desulfurization plant, BalkanEngineer.com learned from Balkangreennews.com. It is one of the largest environmental projects involving thermal power plants in the whole of Europe.
Through the desulfification process, the coal plant will control air pollution and bring TENT A to low union requirements. The new system is expected to use sulfur dioxide emissions 10 times, which will improve the air quality in the Obrenovac area, the surrounding villages and that of Belgrade, near which the facility is located.
"With projects like this, we extend the ecological life of thermal power plants, which is important from the point of view of base energy production. Until we build enough capacities from renewable energy sources or get another type of base energy, we will have to rely on the capacities of thermal power plants - according to the highest environmental standards, of course", commented the Minister of Mining and Energy of Serbia Dubravka Jedovic Handanovic.
