The municipality of Center in North Macedonia is the first municipality to establish its own public company for the production and sale of electricity, BalkanEngineer.com has learned from Novamakedonija.com.mk. Councillors unanimously supported the initiative to establish a municipal public company for electricity production, and a short time later voted on the development plan and programmes of the Municipality of Centre for the period from 2023 to 2025, which includes the project for the installation of photovoltaics in primary schools.

By installing the PV, the Township will save significantly on heating and electricity costs at the elementary schools, and the funds can be redirected to other areas important to residents. The council's idea is to make Centre the first energy independent municipality in the country.

The creation of the commercial company "Energy Centre" facilitates the procedure for the installation of larger photovoltaic systems in public facilities, such as primary schools, kindergartens, urban communities and other facilities that are under the jurisdiction of the municipality. Through the company, the municipality will be able to install power plants with a total maximum capacity of 2.44 MW, with a total installation investment of about 1,755,000 euros with a payback period of about 4-5 years.
