The Netherlands has established itself as the leading foreign investor in Albania in 2023 with investments worth 300 million euros, BalkanEngineer.com has learned from BTA. This significant growth compared to the previous year underlines the growing interest of Dutch enterprises in the Albanian market.

According to ATA (Albanian Telegraph Agency) data, Dutch companies are active in key sectors of the Albanian economy, with energy being the leading area with the most foreign investments. Most of the funding is going to the construction of a hydroelectric power plant on the Devol River in southern Albania by the Norwegian company Statkraft, as well as in transport, health and other sectors.

Last year, the flow of foreign direct investment into Albania reached nearly €1.5 billion, up 8.7% compared to the previous year. This growing trend is considered encouraging by experts, especially in the context of the work of the Albanian Ministry of Finance to draft a new legal framework for a unified law on investment. It will aim to make Albania even more attractive to investors by providing incentives to invest in priority sectors and facilitating investment processes in general.
