The Mayors of the Municipalities of Montana (Bulgaria) and Motzacei (Romania), Zlatko Zhivkov and Marcello Razven, held a successful meeting in Montana. They presented the completed project "Equipment Saves Lives" under the European Union Cross-border Cooperation Programme between Bulgaria and Romania. This is what BalkanEngineer.com learned from BTA.
The project "Equipment saves lives" is worth about 774 000 euro. Within its framework, Montana Municipality purchased specialized equipment, including a backhoe loader, a rescue platform with a fork lift, two pickup trucks, two mini front loaders and an agricultural tractor with a trailer. A guide for preparing citizens for disasters and emergencies was also prepared and training for volunteers was organised.
The Mayor of Montana Zlatko Zhivkov pointed out that this is one of the most successful projects of the Municipality and the new equipment is already in operation. It was used to extinguish the fire at the landfill near the town on 2 May this year. Zhivkov also said that the CBC programme between Bulgaria and Romania provides significant opportunities for the municipalities on both sides of the Danube to work together and that Montana and Motzacei are looking forward to the opening of the new programme for the next programming period, where they plan to engage together again.
