A joint center of the Chinese-European high-speed railway system under the name of Shang-dong was opened in the Serbian town of Indija, BalkanEngineer.com learned from Ekapija.com. This will further support the cooperation between China and Serbia and will improve the international shipping networks’ stability.
The occasion for the Shang-dong center’s construction was the arrival of the first Chinese train with raw materials for the production of tires in a factory of the company Linglong. This was made possible thanks to the high-speed railways built in Serbia, providing new opportunities for better and faster development of freight and passenger railway transport in the country. The establishment of the joint railway base is also a step towards speeding up the transport connections with important centers in Hungary and Poland.
Serbia is China’s first partner for free trade in Central and Eastern Europe. With the increase of the intermodal terminal’s capacity in the city of Indija, the country is becoming an even more important logistics center in this part of the old continent.
