French renewable energy plant operator Voltalia SA has expanded its branch network with the opening of a new office in Albania, BalkanEnigeer.com has learned from Renewablesnow.com.

The office in the capital Tirana will employ 23 staff, mostly Albanians, and the company says the new facility with a local presence will support its further growth in the Balkan country.

Paris-based Voltalia has been active in the Albanian market since 2018, providing turnkey PV plant construction services for third parties. It later began developing its own photovoltaic (PV) and wind projects, and currently has 140 MW of solar farms under construction and 100 MW of contracted PV projects.

Earlier this year, the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD) granted Voltalia a €29 million loan to support the installation of the 140-MW Karavasta solar park in the Fier region of southwestern Albania, which is due to be operational in the second half of 2023.
