Ferroinvest/Centralinvest Holding has built a biogas plant as part of its renewable energy production facilities, BalkanEngineer.com has learned from Mms.mk. The company already owns and operates small hydropower plants (HPPs) and photovoltaic plants.
The biogas plant is considered one of the most stable producers of clean and environmentally friendly electricity, as its production does not depend on wind, sun or water, but can be fully controlled.
Co-investors in the project are the pig farm AGRIA, one of the largest in the country, and the Ohrid-based packaging company ASP-PAK. In this way, the issue of ecology and disposal of farm waste is permanently and systematically addressed, and in the future it is planned to use the waste from the slaughterhouses as biofuel.
The biogas plant will also reduce the import of artificial agricultural fertilisers, as a by-product of its operation is organic fertilisers that remain at the end of the technological process.
The plant is located in the village of. Saramsalino and has a capacity of 2 MW. It took two years to build and cost EUR 12 million. It is a latest generation biogas power plant with state-of-the-art technology. It will produce annually 16 640 MWh of electricity that can satisfy the needs of 15 000 people, heat energy that can heat crops on 6 ha of agricultural land, and 40 000 t of natural agricultural manure.
