Almost 250 female engineering students, including 14 from North Macedonia, gathered in Istanbul for the first joint meeting of the Global Engineer Girls (GEG) initiative organized by the construction conglomerate Limak Group, BalkanEngineer.com learned from Denar.mk. The event was also attended by female students from Turkey, Kosovo and Saudi Arabia. The purpose of the meeting was networking, sharing experience and inspiration from successful professionals and engineers.
The Global Engineer Girls event, chaired by Ebru Özdemir, President of the Limak Group Management Board, aimed to improve the education and employment of women in the STEM field. "I started this initiative because I knew from personal experience how difficult it can be for a woman to succeed in a male-dominated industry," Ozdemir shared.
The meeting program included panel sessions with speakers including actor and engineer Çağlar Ertuğrul, astrophysicist Ferial Özel, fashion designer Gamze Saraçoğlu and others. The event ended with workshops and performances by jazz singer Selen Beitekin and opera singer Murat Karahan.
Global Engineer Girls started in 2015 in Turkey and has expanded to North Macedonia, Kosovo and Saudi Arabia, with the goal of increasing the representation of women in STEM.
