Battery developer ElevenEs has opened an electric vehicle (EV) battery factory in Subotica, Serbia, BalkanEngineer.com has learned from Serbianmonitor.com. The company invested €550 million ($604 million) in the first phase of the factory's development.
The expansion of the research and development (R&D) center and the opening of the first manufacturing facility in Serbia is a huge milestone for ElevenE and the European battery cell market.
ElevenEs is also the company that developed its proprietary lithium iron phosphate (LFP) battery cell technology for EV and energy storage applications. Since October 2019, the company has been conducting research and development on LFP lithium-ion batteries.
ElevenEs plans to commission two gigafactories with a total capacity of 48 GWh, which would be enough battery cells to power one million mid-size electric cars each year.
