Greece's national gas transmission network operator (DESFA) will oversee the construction of the cross-border natural gas pipeline linking Greece with North Macedonia, including the section in the neighbouring country, following a government agreement signed in March 2021. BalkanEngineer.com has learned this from Ekathimerini.com.
The contract was signed between DESFA and Nomagas, the state-owned gas distribution company of North Macedonia, after winning an international tender in which four companies participated.
The European Investment Bank will finance the project with €2.475 billion. The section of the pipeline in North Macedonia will be 68 kilometres long, forming part of a 123-kilometre interconnector project that will be ready by the end of 2024.
