A common market agreement between Albania, North Macedonia and Serbia will enter into force on March 1, 2024, BalkanEngineer.com has learned from Albaniandailynews.com. This will allow free movement in the labour market for citizens of the three countries.
At an official event, two protocols were signed between the three member states - one for free access to the Western Balkans' labour market and another for the integration of an electronic identification scheme for citizens from the region. The final technical tests and settings in the e-services systems remain to be implemented.
"This is great and important news and I believe it will contribute a lot to creating a better business environment for both local and foreign companies to overcome the problems of labour shortage," Serbian President Aleksandar Vucic said on the subject.
The Open Balkans regional initiative took shape in 2019 when Serbia, Albania and North Macedonia agreed to create an economic zone for 12 million people, opening their borders to both people and products.
