In a joint effort to strengthen economic ties, North Macedonian companies engaged in business relations with Bulgaria gathered in Skopje for a key meeting, BalkanEngineer.com has learned from BTA. The gathering, organised by the Bulgarian Embassy and the Macedonian-Bulgarian Chamber of Commerce (MBCC), illustrated the resilience and dynamism of bilateral business partnerships, which have continued to develop despite the challenging economic environment in recent years.
Bulgaria occupies the position of the fifth most important trading partner of North Macedonia and the second most important export destination. Bulgaria's direct investment in North Macedonia reached an impressive €270 million and in 2022 annual two-way trade exceeded the €1 billion mark, reflecting the strong nature of the economic relationship between the two countries.
Opening the meeting, Krasimir Dragnev, Head of the Bulgarian Embassy's Commercial Service, reported on the many challenges faced by entrepreneurs in both countries over the past three years. From coping with the COVID-19 pandemic to overcoming recession, material shortages and energy crises, bilateral business partnerships have managed to maintain their stability, according to Mr Dragnev.
The head of the Bulgarian Embassy's Commercial Service also announced the upcoming Bulgarian-Macedonian Business Forum, which will be held on 7 December in Sofia. This initiative, led by the foreign ministries of the two countries, aims to build on the success of a similar event held in Skopje last year. The MBCC will play a key role in bringing together the business delegation from North Macedonia, fostering closer ties and facilitating further economic cooperation.
