The European Commission (EC) will provide a €9.25 million ($10.13 million) grant for the construction of a new 50 MW photovoltaic (PV) park located in the municipality of Belsh in central Albania, BalkanEngineer.com has learned from SeeNews.com. The total investment cost of the project amounts to €41.5 million.
The park is being developed by Albania's public energy company KESH, but the government is looking for alternative sources of funding as KESH cannot cover all costs.
The project is in line with the country's energy strategy 2018-2030, which emphasises the diversification of energy sources with a focus on renewables, in particular solar energy.
The plant is expected to produce 79 GWh per year, equivalent to the electricity needs of 16 100 households.
