Two applications for constructing wind power plants with a total capacity of 39.9 MW have been submitted to the Ministry of Infrastructure and Energy (MIE) in Albania, BalkanEngineer.bg has learned from a publication in monitor.al. Although the companies submitting the applications are different, the projects appear to be part of a common plan, as both plants will be built in the Vau i Dejës area in the Shkodra region.
According to information published on the Ministry's website, the two power plants, if approved, will not be subject to concession and will not benefit from support measures. OLV has applied to build a 22.8 MW plant, and HTT has applied for a 17.1 MW plant.
In recent years, there has been a growing trend in the country to invest in renewable energy sources, especially photovoltaics. As far as wind energy is concerned, although several projects are at different stages, none of them have been implemented and commissioned. The first wind farm projects expected to progress the fastest are those from the government tender held a year ago when a capacity of 222.4 MW was awarded to three interested companies.
