Devoll Hydropower, a subsidiary of Norwegian renewable energy company Statkraft, which is the concessionaire of two hydropower plants in Albania, has become a member of the Albanian Energy Exchange (Alpex), BalkanEngineer.com has learned from SeeNews.com.
Devoll Hydropower is ready to start trading on the Albanian electricity market, and the company's addition brings the number of exchange members to 16.
Statkraft's two hydropower plants located on the Devoll River, namely Moglica and Banja, generate a total of about 700 GWh per year. The total investment cost of the Devoll hydropower project is estimated at EUR 590 million (USD 629 million).
The Albanian energy exchange, Alpex, was founded in October 2020 by the Albanian electricity system operator OST and its Kosovo partner KOSTT as shareholders with 57.25% and 42.75% stakes respectively. Its first auction for the Albanian market only took place in April this year.
