The governments of Serbia and Bosnia and Herzegovina are considering the launch of a project to build hydropower plants at Drina River, which is part of their common border, BalkanEngineer.com learned. This was made clear by a meeting between the energy ministers of the two countries Aleksandar Antic and Petar Djokic.
Mr. Djokic said in a statement that the Drina has a significant potential for hydroelectric capacity development, allowing for the construction of four power plants in the low and high and three in the middle section of the river. The Serbian government is interested in participating in a joint project to build a hydropower plant in cooperation with a Chinese company.
In June this year Serbia signed a contract with the Chinese company China National Aero-Technology International Engineering Corporation for the construction of the 93.52 MW hydroelectric power plant "Buk Bijela" at the high end of Drina River.
