Domi Eko Solar is now producing photovoltaic panels at its plant near Velika Plana in central Serbia, BalkanEngineer.com has learned from Balkangreennews.com. This is the first production of photovoltaic panels in the country.

Domi Eko Solar will produce two types of panels - 450 W for domestic and business use and 550 W for higher capacity solar power plants. The production equipment was recently supplied by the Italian company Ecoprogetti. The capacity of the plant is 100 MW per year and the plan is to reach it by mid-2024. The investment in production equipment is estimated at €3 million.

Representatives of the accreditation body TÜV SÜD visited the production site at the end of 2023 to familiarise themselves with the production standards and to issue IEC 61215 and IEC 61730 certificates.

Serbia has seen a significant increase in demand for solar panels to generate electricity for self-consumption. Since the country adopted a legal framework in early 2022 that allows electricity users to be both consumers and producers, the number of solar panels now exceeds 2,700 and the installed capacity is 37 MW. At the same time, private investment in large-scale solar power plants is being developed, as is a 1 GW project being implemented by the Government of Serbia.
