The Serbian energy company NIS signed a memorandum for scientific and technological cooperation with the Chinese company Sinopec Petroleum Engineering Corporation, BalkanEngineer.com learned from SEENews.com. Sinopec Petroleum Engineering Corporation is part of the Chinese state-owned company Sinopec Group, which is the largest supplier of petroleum and petrochemical products in China.
NIS and Sinopec Petroleum Engineering Corporation plan to cooperate in areas such as capture, utilization and storage of carbon dioxide, low-carbon hydrogen production, as well as geothermal and solar power generation. The two companies also discussed the potential implementation of a project for carbon capture and blue hydrogen production at the NIS oil refinery in the Serbian city of Pančevo.
The company NIS is 56.15% owned by the Russian company Gazprom, 30% – by the state, and the rest is held by minority shareholders. Among its main activities are the refining of oil and natural gas, the sale and distribution of petroleum products, as well as the implementation of projects in the field of petrochemicals and energy.
