The Romanian state-owned road management company CNAIR had submitted for validation the feasibility study documentation on the basis of which a second bridge over the Danube River connecting Giurgiu, Romania, and Ruse, Bulgaria, will be built, BalkanEngineer.com learned from Romania-insider.com. The project will be funded by the CEF2 Connecting Europe Facility.
After the approval of the documentation, an announcement for participation in the tender will be published along with the deadline for submitting the offers. The future cross-border facility will be 2 km long and will have to provide a link between the road and rail infrastructure between the two countries.
According to the Romanian Transport Minister Sorin Grindeanu, the feasibility study for the new bridge over the Danube River between Romania and Bulgaria should be developed between December 2024 and December 2026. The second stage of the project, concerning the construction of the bridge, will be carried out through the European Union’s funding programs for the period 2021-2027.
