Albania’s electronic communications and postal services regulator AKEP had opened an auction for the granting of usage rights for frequencies in the range of 3400-3800 MHz, BalkanEngineer.com learned from Kapitali.al. The offer is aimed at operators for building a 5G network in the country.
According to AKEP’s data, about 55% of the population in Albania will have 5G coverage by the end of 2027. By the end of next year, many sites in the country, including the ports of Durres, Vlorë, Sarandë and Porto Romano, the international airport, the industrial area, as well as hospital centers in Tirana, will have the 5G service, part of the 3.4-3.8 GHz spectrum. This coverage will be gradually extended to all cities in Albania until 2028.
The deadline for the submission of the offers will be 17th October this year, and the minimum acceptable value for the participants in the tender for granting an individual permit to use frequencies in the 3400-3800 MHz range will be no less than 3.6 million euro (for the right to use a block with 80 MHz) and no less than 1.8 million euro (for the right to use a block with 40 MHz).
