The European Commission is granting 99.5 million euro to the Finnish tire manufacturer Nokian Tyres for the construction of a new factory with zero carbon emissions in the city of Oradea, Romania, BalkanEngineer.com learned from Eureporter.co. The total investment in the enterprise is estimated at around 650 million euro.
The chosen location of the future factory meets the conditions for regional aid under the Treaty on the Functioning of the European Union (TFEU). Nokian Tyres’ eco-plant will have a production capacity of approximately 6 million units of passenger car tires per year, and is expected to become the world’s first tire plant with zero carbon dioxide emissions.
The financial measure will contribute to achieving the European Union’s strategic goals related to the creation of jobs, development and green transition of the economy at a regional level. The project will open around 500 direct job positions, as well as additional indirect jobs.
