The municipality of Svishtov (Bulgaria) is a step closer to realising its ambitious plan to create a Danube Industrial Technology Park after officially submitting its project proposal for investments worth around BGN 50 million, BalkanEngineer.com has learned from BTA. The initiative is part of procedure BG-RRP-3.007 of the "Public Support Programme for the Development of Industrial Areas, Parks and Similar Territories and for Attracting Investments" under the National Recovery and Sustainability Plan. The consent of the Municipal Council allows "Industrial Technology Park - Svishtov" Ltd. to apply for funding, which would help the successful development of the project.
Back in 2015, the Municipality of Svishtov started to manage and operate the old barracks in the town, thus creating the opportunity for the development of an industrial zone with an area of over 300 acres. In 2018, the Municipality officially gained control of these sites, and then signed agreements with several state structures, including the Road Infrastructure Agency, Bulgartransgaz EAD, ESO EAD and VIK Yovkovtsi Ltd, which provide the necessary infrastructure such as road connection, gasification, energy independence and water supply network.
Svishtov Municipality successfully attracted the attention of six Bulgarian and foreign companies with which it concluded Memoranda of Cooperation. The technical projects include two roundabouts, a gas pipeline, water and sewerage infrastructure. It is also noted that an expressway linking the industrial zone with the future Ruse - Veliko Tarnovo motorway will be built.
With the implementation of this project, Svishtov Municipality will not only attract investors, but will also create new jobs and added value for the district. The public presentation of the project in September, including a 3D visualisation, further underlined the importance of this innovative approach, which will contribute to the development of Svishtov and the whole region.
