Nationally, the number of businesses in Albania has increased by around 5.5% overall, but in the municipalities of Kamza and Saranda the increase is twice the national average. This is what BalkanEngineer.com learned from Tiranapost.al On the other hand, a number of small municipalities such as Belshi, Maliki, Patosi and Hassi have seen a decline in the number of enterprises.

INSTAT recently reported that Kamza is the municipality with the strongest increase in the number of businesses in Albania - around 11% year-on-year. It is one of the largest municipalities in terms of population.

After Kamza, the municipality of Saranda recorded the largest increase in new registered businesses with 10.8% in 2022. The small coastal town, which has seen a strong increase in tourism from foreign demand in recent years, reported 2,280 businesses out of 2,057 in 2021.

Kukeshi and Himara also saw strong business growth of more than 10% compared to last year. The growth of new businesses was also high in the municipalities of Memalai, Kruja, Tirana, Vlora and Durres of 7-8%.

In some small municipalities, however, the number of enterprises decreased. The decline comes from depopulation, as business in small municipalities is mainly based on trade and services. For example, in the municipality of Belsch in 2022 there were only 560 legal businesses counted, with a 5.6% decline, the strongest in the entire country.

Generally, of the 61 municipalities in the state, 15 of them saw a decrease in businesses, three of them saw no change from 2022 to 2021, and 46 saw an increase.
