For the second consecutive year, Limak Group, a leading construction, energy and cement company, is championing the cause of gender equality in STEM fields through its Global Engineer Girls (GEG) initiative, BalkanEngineer.com has learned from Denar.mk. The groundbreaking program once again awarded scholarships to 20 outstanding young women. The financial support is aimed at female students studying electrical engineering, mechanical engineering, construction and computer and information sciences at the state universities in North Macedonia.

The selection process was rigorous, with candidates selected based on their brilliant academic performance and active participation in extra-curricular activities. Over 180 aspiring female engineers applied, highlighting the growing interest of ladies in traditionally male-dominated fields.

In addition to financial assistance, Limak Group also offers a comprehensive support system for talented youth, which includes internships, training sessions to improve digital and other basic skills, and participation in a mentoring program led by experienced professionals and business leaders.

During the opening of the program, Eda Jeginaltay-Kurt, a member of the Board of Directors of Limak Skopje and the Limak Foundation, emphasized the importance of this next generation of female engineers being inspired to pursue their dreams and take leadership positions in the field. The inaugural event featured speeches from industry leaders such as Maria Dukovska-Pavlovska, Marta Naumovska-Grnarova and Merita Ramadani-Alimi, who shared their own experiences and offered invaluable advice to budding female engineers.

At its core, the initiative aims to empower young women by providing them with the necessary tools and opportunities to develop careers in STEM. By actively addressing gender gaps in these industries, the initiative not only promotes individual success, but also contributes to a more inclusive and diverse society.
