The international civil aviation airport in the Albanian coastal city of Vlora is expected to be operational in March 2025, BalkanEngineer.com has learned from SeeNews.com. According to the plan, the final construction works should be completed in December 2024.
The Albanian government expects the airport to serve 1 million tourists between March and December 2025, which is three times more than the 300,000 passengers originally projected. The airport's terminal will have an area of 20,000 m3 and will be equipped with a 5.2 MW rooftop photovoltaic system.
A consortium led by Switzerland-based Mabco Constructions, a subsidiary of the Mabetex Group that also includes Turkey's YDA Group and Kosovo-based 2A Group, began construction of the airport in 2021 under a €103.9 million ($113.5 million) contract including construction, operations and maintenance.
