Imports of machinery, equipment and spare parts, a direct indicator of investment in the Albanian economy, increased by 4.1% in the first quarter of the year, reaching 47.9 billion Albanian lek, compared to 39.4 billion lek in the first quarter of 2022. This BalkanEngineer.com learned from BTA.
The import of basic goods for the manufacturing industry is related to the expansion of the activities of these industries and the growing interest of enterprises in the use of modern technologies that improve the quality of production. According to the Albanian Statistical Institute, INSTAT, Albania's main partners with the largest volume of imports in this category are Italy, China and Germany.
In the first three months of the year, machinery, equipment and spare parts worth a total of 9.3 billion lek were imported from Italy. Machinery, equipment and spare parts imported from China during the same period amounted to 7.7 billion lek, while machinery, equipment and spare parts imported from Germany amounted to 7.9 billion lek.
Over the years, FDI inflows into Albania have maintained a positive upward trend. In spite of the situation following the mosquito pandemic and the war in Ukraine, Albania continues to be attractive for businesses from abroad. Investment from other countries in the country in 2022 increased by 29% compared to 2019, reaching 1.37 billion euros.
