The increasing number of electric cars in Serbia urgently requires the construction of more electric charging stations, as the country’s highways currently have only eight, BalkanEngineer.com learned from Ekapija.com. The country plans to increase their number to 164 by April-May 2025.
Currently, the installation of 10 charging units is underway on the routes from Šid to Belgrade, from Belgrade to Niš, from Niš to Preševo, from Belgrade to Novi Sad and from Niš to Dimitrovgrad. This was made clear by an announcement from the Minister of Construction, Transport and Infrastructure, Goran Vesić. Another 16 electric charging stations are also being built along two new routes, as well as on the Šabac-Loznica high-speed highway.
In November, the implementation of the “Green Stations” project will also commence in Serbia, which will be realized at 16 locations along the road network. The legislation in the country also requires highways to have one electric charging station for every four gas stations, which foresees the construction of another 50 new charging units for electric vehicles.
