Greek gas company DEPA Commercial is set to acquire a 35% stake in Fier Thermoelectric SA, a company established in September 2022 by the GEK TERNA group and Albania's GENER2 to develop a first-of-its-kind 174-MW gas-fired power plant in Ruskovets, south-central Albania. BalkanEngineer.com has learned this from Energypress.eu.

The new power plant will allow Albania to significantly reduce electricity imports and manage the country's growing energy demand with greater efficiency and flexibility.

Konstantinos Xefaras, CEO of DEPA Commercial, noted that the Greek company is continuously expanding its operations as a modern, vertically integrated organisation, especially in the power generation sector.

Following DEPA Commercial's investments in photovoltaic projects with a total capacity of 815 MW and its participation in an 840-MW power plant in Alexandroupolis (Northeast Greece), the company is also entering the Albanian market. DEPA Commercial has emerged as one of the most dynamic energy companies in Southeast Europe, participating in and undertaking initiatives that contribute to the energy stability of the region.
