The European Union (EU) has transferred a €72 million ($77.1 million) grant to the Albanian government as part of an €80 million package agreed last year to ease the impact of the energy crisis on Albanian households and small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs). This is what BalkanEngieer.com has learned from SeeNews.com.
The funds will subsidise additional energy costs for 1 million households and 168,000 small and medium-sized enterprises, provide financial assistance to 11,200 people vulnerable to the crisis and support the installation of new solar systems. The project also supports the government's efforts to diversify energy resources by investing in wind and solar energy and to create new legislation in this area.
The remaining EUR 8 million will be disbursed in 2024 pending the implementation of the relevant government measures. The grants are provided under the Instrument for Pre-Accession Assistance 2023 (IPA23) for Albania.
