In cooperation with the Development Bank of North Macedonia (RBSM) and local commercial banks, EIB Global - the branch of the European Investment Bank for activities outside the European Union, will provide 100 million euros to promote the development and "green" transition of small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) in North Macedonia, BalkanEngineer.com has learned from Denar.mk.
The funds will be directed to the liquidity and investment needs of local businesses and will finance energy projects and those for a "green" transition, thereby supporting sustainable growth with the reduction of carbon emissions in North Macedonia in accordance with the Economic and Investment Plan and the Green Program for the Western Balkans of the European Union.
EIB Global Vice President Liliana Pavlova, in charge of operations in North Macedonia, commented that the current energy and economic crises further worsen the finances of already credit-strapped local companies, and improved access to finance for SMEs and the stability of the banking sector are priorities for economic growth, job creation and competitiveness. With this in mind, the EIB credit line supports both the country's climate goals and the growth of SMEs, which are critical to ensuring sustainable economic development and prosperity in the region.
