British packaging supplier DS Smith plans to invest €16 million ($17.6 million) in new equipment for its plant in the southern Serbian town of Krusevac as part of expansion plans in Eastern Europe, BalkanEnigeer.com has learned from SeeNews.com.
The investment will support DS Smith's ongoing efforts to replace plastic packaging, increase capacity by 25% and significantly optimise productivity. The new equipment will also enhance innovative packaging design capabilities for fast-moving consumer goods and support the maintenance of automated packaging lines.
DS Smith operates in more than 30 different countries and has more than 30,000 employees, and in August the company entered into an agreement to acquire Serbian packaging manufacturer Bosis.
DS Smith began operations in Serbia in 2004 and is also present in Bosnia and Herzegovina, Bulgaria, Croatia, Romania, North Macedonia, Slovenia, Greece and Turkey.
