Bulgarian pharmaceutical group Sopharma plans to expand its presence and operations in Serbia, BalkanEngineer.com has learned from Economic.bg. The company's intentions became clear during the latest meeting of the Board of Directors, at which it was decided that representatives of the company would carry out a detailed analysis of potential opportunities to acquire ownership in companies involved in the production or marketing of healthcare products in Serbia.
The Board of Directors authorized the Company's representatives to evaluate, explore and conduct initial negotiations with a view to pursuing potential acquisitions of equity stakes or majority stakes in manufacturers or suppliers of pharmaceuticals, nutritional supplements, medical devices and other healthcare products.
In Serbia, Sopharma is already active in the distribution of pharmaceutical and medical products, sanitary products, food supplements and cosmetics through its subsidiary Sopharma Trading.
The Group started its regional expansion and entered the Serbian market in May 2015. In the summer of 2017, the company acquired a majority stake in Lekovit d.o.o., the fastest growing pharmaceutical distributor in Serbia. A year and a half later, Sopharma fully acquired the Serbian company.
In addition to Serbia, Sopharma is also active in Moldova and Ukraine.
