On 20 September this year, an official event held at Sofia Tech Park, Bulgaria, marked 30 years since the establishment of the official representation of the German economy in Bulgaria. During this period, trade between Bulgaria and Germany has increased 16-fold, with Bulgarian exports increasing 23-fold, the German-Bulgarian Chamber of Industry and Commerce (GBITC) told BalkanEngineer.com.
"Despite the indicators of an expected economic downturn in Germany, the current moment does not provide reasons for German companies operating in Bulgaria to start the process of withdrawal from our country, as happened in 2014," explained Mitko Vassilev, GBITC's general manager.
Mr Vassilev also noted that in recent years surveys of the Chamber's members have confirmed the intentions of German companies to continue their presence in Bulgaria. For this year, 90% of the companies participating in the survey have expressed their satisfaction and are ready to invest again in the country.
The event included a panel discussion on "The Economy in Germany and Bulgaria Today and in 30 Years", which addressed the issues of energy transition and renewable energy, labour shortages, the relationship between education and business, and the potential for innovation and technology transfer.
