Esko Bulgaria, which until last year was part of the Czech CEZ and is now part of the Bulgarian group Sintetika, will build new photovoltaic plants at the metallurgical enterprise Aurubis in Bulgaria, BalkanEngineer.com learned from Economy.bg. The company undertakes the development of the entire project and will be responsible for the technical design, supply and installation of the equipment, commissioning and maintenance of the facilities.
In December 2022, Aurubis AG, the parent company of Aurubis Bulgaria, announced that it would invest €20 million in expanding solar power generation capacity at its plant in Pirdop, Bulgaria. Currently, the production RES capacity is 10 MW, and the two new renewable energy facilities, which will be installed in 2023 and 2024, will provide the production of another 17,000 MWh per year, which is equal to the energy needs of about 5,000 households.
In 2021, CEZ ESCO built the first solar park "Aurubis-1", whose annual production of 11,700 MWh made it the largest solar power plant for its own needs in Bulgaria. The first of the two new solar parks, named Aurubis 2, will be located on the site of a reclaimed landfill site at the plant. "Aurubis 3" will be built on the technical site of the plant in Pirdop.
When ready, the photovoltaic parks will cover about 6% of Aurubis Bulgaria's current energy needs. The company aims for renewable energy sources to cover 20% of its total energy needs at the production site in Pirdop by 2030.
