A general meeting of the Association of Balkan Chambers brought together representatives from the countries in the region in the Greek city of Thessaloniki, BalkanEnigeer.com has learned from the Bulgarian Chamber of Commerce and Industry (BCCI). The event, held under the chairmanship of the Union of Greek Chambers of Commerce and Industry, was an excellent opportunity for discussions and exchange of ideas on issues related to the economic development of the Balkans.
Representatives from the Chambers of Commerce of Albania, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Bulgaria, Cyprus, Greece, North Macedonia, Serbia, Romania, Turkey and Montenegro gathered to discuss important topics for the region. The President of the Union of Greek Chambers, Ioannis Masoutis, underlined the role of the Association in promoting bilateral and multilateral relations between companies from different member countries.
The event was also attended by important guests from political and public life, including the Deputy Minister of the Interior of Greece for Macedonia and Thrace, the Governor of Central Macedonia Region and the Mayor of Thessaloniki.
The President of the Bulgarian Chamber of Commerce and Industry, Tsvetan Simeonov, highlighted the initiative for the establishment of the Association of Balkan Chambers, started in 1993 by the former President of BCCI, Bozhidar Bozhinov. He stressed the importance of supporting the European Union's enlargement priorities and expressed BCCI's interest in including women's entrepreneurship in the agenda of the next presidency of the Association of Balkan Chambers.
The economic overview of Bulgaria, presented by Mr. Simeonov, highlighted the low tax rates for business, the development of the economy and the attractive sectors for investment. He also announced the country's preparations to join the Eurozone, OECD and Schengen.
Branko Azeski, President of the North Macedonian Chamber of Commerce, was named President of the Association of Balkan Chambers next year. He focused on key priorities for the region, stressing the importance of economic growth to support infrastructure projects and improve the economic environment across the region.
The meeting concluded with the participants' commitment to cooperate and unite in their efforts to support economic development and stability in the Balkan region.
