Alpha Partners Bulgaria, a unit of Liechtenstein-registered Alpha Investments, has been granted permission to acquire Bulgarian tobacco and cigarette manufacturer KT International, BalkanEngineer.com has learned from SeeNews.com. According to the Competition Commission, the deal will not result in horizontal or vertical overlaps that could significantly restrict competition or lead to a dominant position in the relevant markets by the company's competitors.
The registered capital of Plovdiv-based KT International amounts to approximately BGN 4.98 million (USD 2.8 million/EUR 2.5 million) and the company was previously owned by Sigma Consulting. The cigarette manufacturer also owns a 1.999 MW grid-connected solar PV system for its own use.
CT International is the only tobacco manufacturer that sells its products on the Bulgarian market, while its other competitors export their goods. The company holds a 5-10% share of the Bulgarian cigarette distribution market between May 2021 and May 2023, being preceded by only four global tobacco producers.
