SpaceCAD: How Siemens makes design smarter and faster by integrating AI into Solid Edge

While most of the focus regarding artificial intelligence is on the realm of content creation, the industrial sector in the Balkans is already utilizing a more programmatic application for that kind of technology. Experts from SpaceCAD comment on an interesting tendency: the integration of specialized AI in the Siemens ecosystem, expected to solve the problems of time and lack of experienced workforce.
Transforming Solid Edge into a “intelligent” partner begins with the ability of the interface to self-learn. Unlike standard CAD systems with static icons, here we see a more adaptive environment, which, based on the words of SpaceCAD, “learns your habits and foresees your actions”.
From an analytical point of view, this is an integration of machine learning in the ergonomics of the working environment. Judging by technical data by Siemens, the software identifies models for behavior and specific work sequences – Predictive UI. For example, if the engineer often follows the command "Drilling an opening" with "Sawing a thread", the algorithm automatically selects the second instrument under the mouse cursor. SpaceCAD experts point out that this leads to a drastic reduction in the so-called "mouse path" on the screen.
If the predictive interface optimizes the movement of the hand, Design Copilot is aimed at optimizing the thinking process. “The tool is not just a chatbot, but a conversational assistant that revolutionizes the way you interact with your CAD software,” SpaceCAD experts said. It is an integration of natural language processing (NLP) directly into the core of the design environment.
Moving on to working with large assemblies, AI takes on the role of geometric navigator. One of the biggest challenges facing engineering offices is the time lost in manually “fitting” components. SpaceCAD points to the Magnetic Snap feature as an example of “an incredibly intuitive way to position.”
