Energy-efficient retrofit with Grundfos MIXIT reduces heating costs in a residential complex in France

When a housing complex in Cosne-Cours-sur-Loire at Nièvre, France, undergoes massive refurbishment aimed towards energy efficiency and improving living conditions for the inhabitants, HVAC system optimization becomes a top priority. For this reason, public housing operator Nièvre Habitat and the district heating company ENGIE Solutions, in collaboration with Grundfos, are implementing a new station based on the innovative Plug&Play solution MIXIT. This was the complex receives modern, optimized heating system with the possibility for long range monitoring, lower energy consumption and higher comfort for the inhabitants.

“The renovation of the residential complex includes the installation of external thermal insulation and replacement of the window frames in order to meet the standards for low-energy buildings. The main goal is to reduce heating costs and improve the comfort of the tenants,” Grundfos explained. “In this context, the optimization of the HVAC system becomes a key priority. To achieve this, the MIXIT solution was chosen – an intelligent device that combines all the components of the traditional mixing loop into one compact and efficient solution,” they added.

The concept behind MIXIT is that all elements of the mixing circuit are to be integrated into a single Plug&Play system, which is set and balanced automatically judging by the requirements of the installation. The device is developed and tested in factory conditions and is delivered as a finished solution, which makes set up significantly easier. This allows for the time required for mounting and set up to be reduced by 50%, while at the same time ensuring good reliability.

MIXIT works in combination with the high-efficiency MAGNA3 D twin-head circulator, and Modbus and BACnet support enables integration with BMS systems and remote control. This allows ENGIE operators to monitor and optimize consumption in real time.
