Agroindustrial holding Trans-Oil will build a high-tech corn starch production plant in the Serbian town of Sremska Mitrovica. According to information obtained by BalkanEngineer.com via Logos Press, the value of the initial investment exceeds EUR 30 million.

The new plant, to be implemented through the company's Serbian subsidiary Amelo, will process up to 250,000 t of maize per year. The end result will be a wide range of products, from standard and modified starch to corn syrup, which will cover the growing demand in Central and Southern Europe. The production facility is expected to create 150 new jobs.

The plant will be built in cooperation with Chinese technology equipment manufacturer Myande Group. According to Trans-Oil CEO Vazha Yashi, the project will introduce state-of-the-art technologies in the starch industry to the Balkans.

Financing for the venture will be provided through a combination of equity and support from local banking institutions in Serbia. Construction will start in May 2025 and completion is expected within 18 to 20 months.

Trans-Oil Group is an agro-industrial holding company with an established presence in Moldova, Romania and Serbia, specializing in grain trading, oilseed processing and vegetable oil production.
