Trakia Economic Zone (TEZ) near Plovdiv, Bulgaria, has developed a project for carbon neutral industrial zones, BalkanEngineer.com learned from an interview of TEZ Executive Director Eng. Plamen Panchev  on Bloomberg TV.

TEZ is the basis of the Consortium "Carbon Neutral Industrial Parks", which also includes the industrial zones in Burgas, Gabrovo and Haskovo. The  project is based on the partnership with the German Fraunhofer Institute, the United Nations Industrial Development Organization (UNIDO), the Bulgarian Investment Agency / BIA / and a public-private partnership with nine municipalities and three clusters.

The aim of the initiative is to create a more attractive investment and innovation environment that will lead to better working and living conditions, said Eng. Panchev. He also pointed out that within 10 years, carbon neutrality will be achieved for at least one or two of the parts of TIZ - a result that is present in the future plans of many companies in the area.

The vision of the Rakovski Industrial Zone project, for example, is renewable energy to be used by 2030, in combination with traditional power supply. The plan includes optimization of energy consumption, energy efficiency at the level of industrial buildings, as well as solving all problems related to the use of water resources.
