The Romanian city of Cluj-Napoca will host the first edition of the Central European Artificial Intelligence Olympiad (CEOAI) in the summer of 2026, BalkanEngineer.com learned from an official announcement by the organizers. The main event is scheduled for July 14-19, 2026, and will be held at Babeș-Bolyai University.

The Olympiad will be a week-long international competition in which high school students will compete in solving problems and innovations related to artificial intelligence. The format includes two days of competitive challenges requiring both technical skills (programming and modeling) and critical thinking and conceptual design of AI solutions. The rules have been adapted from established international science competitions and tailored to the specifics of AI topics.
The forum is organized by the Faculty of Mathematics and Computer Science at Babeș-Bolyai University (UBB) in Cluj, in partnership with regional educational and scientific organizations. CEOAI is conceived as an annual Olympiad for the region and aims to motivate students to expand their knowledge in machine learning, natural language processing, computer vision, and AI ethics. The organizers note that in addition to the competition, the event will also include workshops, lectures, and meetings with university professors and industry partners.
