Zagorka, Bulgaria’s leading brewery and part of the international Heineken Group, has announced the launch of a large-scale investment project aimed at product diversification and the transition to renewable energy. The initiative includes the implementation of modern technologies for the production of non-alcoholic beer, the construction of a photovoltaic power plant (PVPP), and the integration of a local energy storage system into the production complex in Stara Zagora, BalkanEngineer.com learned from the company’s official website.

The project is being implemented under a grant agreement under the “Regional Development” Program 2021–2027, co-financed by the European Union’s Just Transition Fund. The total value of the investment program amounts to 4.8 million euros (over 9.45 million leva), with 2.8 million euros provided as non-repayable European funding and the remainder coming from the company’s own resources.
The strategic project will last 28 months and aims to modernize technology and support the region’s economic transformation. By introducing the new production line, the company is responding to global consumer trends toward increased demand for non-alcoholic alternatives, while also creating jobs for specialists in the renewable energy sector.
Investments in renewable energy sources and energy storage facilities directly support the achievement of the European Union’s goals for climate neutrality by 2050. In accordance with international transparency standards, Zagorka has already published the first tender procedures covering the supply of a specialized stainless-steel facility for alcohol storage, as well as the related construction and installation work.
