Ikarus and EVN is the most economically advantageous in the tender for the large-scale public procurement contract in North Macedonia

The joint bid by Hungarian manufacturer Ikarus Electric ZRT and energy company EVN has been ranked as the most advantageous in the public tender for the supply of 150 electric buses in North Macedonia, BalkanEngineer.com learned from the Macedonian Information Agency (MIA). The announced terms of the tender also include the delivery and installation of 75 charging stations for public transportation.

The public procurement procedure was launched by the government with the aim of comprehensively modernizing public transportation in Skopje and other major municipalities across the country, as well as reducing air pollution in urban centers. The project includes both the delivery of the new vehicles and the complete construction of the accompanying charging infrastructure.

Within the consortium, the Hungarian company Ikarus Electric ZRT is responsible for the manufacture and delivery of the electric vehicles, while EVN is responsible for the procurement, installation, and integration of the 75 charging stations into the power grid. According to the bid evaluation committee, the joint proposal from the two companies offers the most optimal balance between price, technical specifications, and warranty terms.

The implementation of this project is among the most significant steps toward modernizing urban mobility in North Macedonia in recent years. Replacing the aging fleet with new electric buses is expected to significantly improve air quality and reduce operating costs for urban transportation.
