Romania’s Alum invests USD 14.4 million in environmental programs

Alum, the only producer of calcined alumina (aluminium oxide) in Romania, invested USD 14.4 million in measures for environmental protection and energy consumption cuts in 2018, BalkanEngineer.com learned from Romania-Journal.com.

 

 

Alum's management is implementing a number of measures to improve energy efficiency, including installing new gas burners in steam boiler 1, integrating a NOx combustion system in C2Ap1 boiler, optimizing steam lines and more. The company also upgrades its 6 kV electrical fittings and installs frequency converters.

 

In recent years, Alum reports a 19% reduction in electricity consumption and 28% cut in natural gas, while the amount of industrial water used has decreased almost sixfold over the past eight years.
