The Romanian government has approved a plan worth 1.059 billion lei (€212.8 million) to dredge the port of Constanta in order to deepen the basins and navigation channels in its three main areas, BalkanEngineer.com has learned from dredgingtoday.com.
According to official information provided by the state authorities, the dredging will cover 400 ha and the project will last 39 months, of which 30 months will be dredging. The investment will be financed by EU funds and the state budget.
In 2022, the port of Constanta handled more than 75.5 million tonnes of goods, up from 67.5 million tonnes a year earlier, according to data on the port's website.
