In response to the rapidly growing interest in electric mobility in the country, OMV Bulgaria has officially announced the launch of an ambitious project to build its own network of fast and ultra-fast charging stations. The initiative aims to provide consumers with reliable and accessible infrastructure along key transportation routes, transforming the chain’s gas stations into comprehensive, next-generation energy hubs, BalkanEngineer.com learned from the Bulgarian Telegraph Agency (BTA).

The company’s strategic plan calls for a large portion of OMV’s locations in Bulgaria to be equipped with charging points with a capacity between 150 kW and 300 kW by the end of 2026. These parameters allow for a significant reduction in charging time, with an average battery charge to 80% taking less than 20 minutes. The project is part of the OMV Group’s global commitment to achieving carbon neutrality and supporting decarbonization in the transport sector.

OMV Bulgaria’s management emphasizes that the new stations will be integrated into the international charging network, allowing customers to use the services via a single app and digital payment methods. In addition to Bulgaria, the project is aligned with similar initiatives in Romania, Austria, and Hungary, ensuring seamless long-distance travel by electric vehicle across Central and Eastern Europe.
