North Macedonia is in the process of negotiating a new 500 million euro loan that will go towards the modernisation of the country's road infrastructure, BalkanEngineer.com has learned from a statement by Prime Minister Hristian Mitkoski. He also said that the funds will be used for the reconstruction of local, regional and expressway roads, and he expects negotiations with the European lending country to be concluded soon. Her name was not disclosed in the statement.

The investment comes at a crucial time as the country seeks to improve its transport network and create better conditions for business and tourism. According to the Ministry of Finance, by the end of 2024, North Macedonia's public debt has reached 9.6 billion euros, which represents 61.9% of the projected GDP.
Last year, the country already negotiated a EUR 1 billion loan from the Hungarian Export-Import Bank, which was used to repay Eurobonds and finance local projects. The new funds for infrastructure improvements are expected to accelerate economic development.
