The government of North Macedonia will invest in the country's energy efficiency, BalkanEngineer.com learned from BalkanGreenEnergyNews.com. This is part of the 6 priorities of the cabinet for the next 4 years.

By 2024, all state institutions will switch to the district energy network and will use high-efficiency inverter air conditioners or heat pumps. More air quality monitoring stations will be built, as well as green areas around industrial facilities.

A  Bus Rapid Transit system of low-emission vehicles will start to operate in Skopje. The country will also introduce subsidies and tax incentives for electric and hybrid vehicles and bicycles.

The share of renewable energy sources for electricity production will increase to more than 50%. The government promised to ban the construction of small hydropower plants in protected areas. It will also put focus on waste and wastewater management and provision of drinking water for all citizens.
