North Macedonia launches construction of new Science and Technology Park in Skopje
North Macedonia is taking a major step towards strengthening its technological future by building a Science and Technology Park in Skopje, BalkanEngineer.com has learned from North Macedonian media. The project, which covers an area of 1.8 ha and will have 50 980 m2 of built-up area, is being implemented with the support of the European Investment Bank and the government of the Republic of North Macedonia. The aim is to create an innovation hub to stimulate research, technology and entrepreneurship in the country.
The project involves the construction of 16 buildings spread over four blocks, which will offer office space, laboratories and recreational areas. This structure will allow start-ups, research teams and SMEs to collaborate and share knowledge in a dynamic and innovative environment. The project is undergoing urban planning and is expected to be completed in the near future.
This initiative is part of North Macedonia's broader strategy to promote innovation and technology. In 2023, the European Institute of Innovation and Technology (EIT) opened its first innovation hub in Skopje, which aimed to connect local entrepreneurs and researchers to the European innovation ecosystem. This hub will provide support to start-ups and stimulate innovation development in the region.
In 2024, the first biotechnology laboratory in Skopje was opened, located in the Marie Curie Vocational School. Its purpose is to serve as a venue for extracurricular activities and projects in biology and chemistry, providing opportunities for pupils and students to learn about the latest advances in biotechnology.
